About Us
At Stephen Lloyd Training we specialise in teaching writing skills because that is where our expertise lies. Stephen founded the company in 2003, after working for many years as a professional writer and editor. His aim was to help people to write well at work by passing on his skills and techniques.
Today we have a wider range of writing and editing courses, but our aim is still to boost the skills and confidence of those who write, edit and proofread at work.
Stephen Lloyd
Stephen Lloyd has worked with words since 1986. He began his career as a journalist, working for a number of national publications and in BBC Radio. From there he moved into consultancy, writing a range of corporate documents, including reports, proposals, press releases, marketing materials and recruitment literature.
Becoming increasingly involved in publishing, Stephen developed the skills of editing and proofreading. He worked with a variety of publishers, including the careers and education specialists Hobsons. Later he spent seven years as Senior Tutor at a leading publishing training organisation, before founding Stephen Lloyd Training in 2003.
Today Stephen passes on his wide experience through specialist courses in the skills of writing, editing and proofreading.
Stephen was nominated for the Legal Education & Training Group’s “Trainer of the Year” Award 2008.
An individual approach
Our approach is friendly and supportive. The emphasis is on making the learning enjoyable, relevant and easily transferred to the workplace. Individual attention is seen as the key to success, so classes are kept small and delegates are encouraged to bring documents that they would like advice on in one-to-one sessions.
The desktop guides
All delegates receive a copy of our desktop guide for the subject they are studying. This becomes an invaluable reference book when they return to their desks. Each guide looks at its subject in depth, but also incorporates quick-reference sections, useful checklists and ideas for further study.
Post-course support
A year of post-course support is made available to delegates on both open and in-house courses. After their course they can contact the tutor by email or phone to ask questions or seek advice and guidance. This consolidates their training and helps them to build confidence. There is no limit to the number of times the service can be used in the year following the course.
